Tonya is a lifelong caregiver and passionate advocate for the 63 million American Family Caregivers. With over 30 years of experience providing dedicated care to her youngest sister. Her personal journey as a family caregiver has shaped a powerful commitment to justice, dignity, and systemic change for those who care for others.

Tonya’s advocacy began at the grassroots level and quickly expanded to statewide leadership. As the former California State Representative for the National Family Caregivers Association—now known as the Caregiver Community Action Network (CCAN)—she championed policies that uplift family caregivers and amplify their voices in public discourse. Her work helped bridge the gap between lived experience and legislative action, ensuring caregivers are seen, heard, and supported.

In her role as an Executive Board member of SEIU Local 2015, Tonya continues to lead with compassion and conviction. She plays a vital role in shaping the union’s strategic direction, advocating for improved wages, benefits, and respect for long-term care workers across California. Her leadership is grounded in firsthand experience and fueled by a deep understanding of the challenges caregivers face every day.
